About
About The Parish Council
There are 9 members and elections are held in May every 4 years. The Chairman and Vice Chairman are elected by the Councillors at the Annual General Meeting, which is held in the village hall each May. Each November expenditure is considered and a bid for funds forwarded to Lewes District Council.
When We Meet
Main Parish Council meetings are generally held on the first Monday of each month, (with some exceptions). Planning meetings (when required) are held on the third Tuesday of the month. Please note that some dates may be subject to change. All Council meetings are open to members of the public and take place at the village hall. Agendas for meetings are displayed on the parish noticeboard & website.
What We Are Responsible For
Amongst other things the Parish Council is responsible for street lighting, certain aspects of footpaths, bus shelters and so on. Grants can sometimes be obtained towards certain village and parish activities. It is the Custodian Trustee for the Village Hall and Playing Field, although the Wivelsfield Village Hall and Recreation Ground Management Committee deals with the day to day running of each.
Other Information
There are three notice boards in the parish. The main one can be found on the eastern wall of the village hall and there is another on the western wall of the village shop. The third noticeboard is situated in Theobalds Road, on the side of the barn at Theobalds Farm. In the Mid Sussex Times, published each Thursday and available from the village shop, there is a section entitled “Village Voice” that contains information about Wivelsfield. It features current events and other matters of interest.
