We are a small non-league club that plays friendly matches on Sunday afternoons, mostly against local teams. Home matches are played on the Village Green and our main aim is to enjoy our cricket - of course we enjoy it more when we win!.
Outdoor nets sessions are sometimes on a Wednesday evening on the Village Green, weather permitting.
We really do need more players, and if they could come from the village that would be great. Who are we looking for? All we ask is some enthusiasm and a willingness to enjoy yourself. Age ranges are not too important, as there are 12 year olds happy to play against adults, whereas other children may be happier starting to play adult cricket at about 16. We do not offer specific coaching as such, but we have 2 ECB Level 2 coaches in the Club who are always available to help. If you already have coaching with another Club, but would like to play adult cricket and get a chance to practice your skills please try us out. Many in the past have recognised it is better to have a regular chance to bat or bowl for WGCC rather than seldom being given the opportunity with other Clubs - so play for your Club during the week, and come and enjoy yourself with the village team on Sundays!
I've mentioned the age of youngsters, but equally important are the more mature players. If you've played cricket in the past, but pressures of work or home life curtailed your sporting career why not think about getting your bat out again. You can play as little or often as you want to.

History
There has been a cricket club in Wivelsfield for more than 100 years, and we recently traced what was probably the first game against Lindfield 1905. It is probable that other venues were used as the ‘home’ ground during these hundred years, although unfortunately the Club has no records which give further information. We have however been playing at our present location, on the village green, for in excess of 40 years.
The Club
The Club is run primarily to ensure cricket continues to be played on the village green. Due to the spartan facilities available to the Club in earlier years it was considered that only friendly matches would be played – rather than having to create all the needs required for league cricket. This ethos for the Club has continued though to the current time and the Club only plays Sunday friendly matches.
The team plays every Sunday during the season, which runs from late April to the end of September. Fixtures are generally against local teams from around Mid Sussex and
The current squad consists of a range of ages from 13 years to 55+ years and players mainly live in the village or Burgess Hill. The Club does not offer specialised coaching to players although quite a few players play for other teams on Saturdays and then play for WGCC on Sundays for a more relaxed game, and to put into practice what they have been coached at either schools or other clubs. It is generally our aim that everybody who plays in the team is involved to some extent – to avoid a player just turning up to stand on the boundary fielding and then put low down in the batting order. It is not always possible to achieve this but will happen where we can.
