Welcome to the Wivelsfield Parish Council website, where you can find out what is happening in our parish. It contains information about the Parish Council and clubs and societies that run in our parish, along with other useful information.
The Parish Council
The Parish Council consists of 9 Councillors, who are elected every 4 years. Each year in May, the Councillors elect the positions of Chairman and Vice Chairman at the Annual General Meeting. The Annual General Meeting is held at Wivelsfield Village Hall.
When we meet
The Parish Council meets on the first Monday of each month. Interim Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of the month, if required. Please note that some dates may be subject to change. The Parish Council meetings are open to any members of the public and take place at the Village Hall. You can find Agenda, Minutes and dates of future meetings here. Please don’t hesitate to contact any member of the council or the clerk to find out further information.
What are we responsible for?
The Parish Council represents the Parishioners’ views to the district council. They are responsible for allocating funds for repair or installation of street lighting, reviewing planning applications, for certain aspects of footpaths, bus shelters, etc. Grants can sometimes be obtained towards certain village and parish activities.
In November each year the Council considers the required expenditure for the coming year and agrees a budget, which is funded by the precept collected by Lewes District Council as part of the Council Tax.
It is the Custodian Trustee for the Village Hall and Playing Field, with the Wivelsfield Village Hall and Recreation Ground Management Committee manages the day-to-day running of each.
There are three notice boards in the parish. The main one can be found on the eastern wall of the Village Hall, the second is on the western wall of the village shop and the third is situated in Theobalds Road, on the side of the barn at Theobalds Farm. The Parish Council publishes the Wivelsfield News at regular intervals. In the Mid Sussex Times, published each Thursday (available from the village shop), there is a section entitled “Village Voice” that contains information about Wivelsfield. It features current events and other matters of interest.
